Here's why this Porsche 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition will become an instant classic

• 911 Targa Heritage Design Edition pays homage to Targa's history

• 331kW and 530Nm sent to all four wheels

• Only 992 units will be built, globally

In May 2020, Porsche revealed its eighth-generation 911 Targa in 4 and 4S guises. Though the event took place in a digital space, it presented an opportunity to familiarise yourself with one of Porsche's longstanding servants.

Mere weeks from the event, Porsche has unveiled the next chapter in the 911 Targa's history with the introduction of the Heritage Design Edition. This car features design elements from the 1950s and early 60s and forms part of a four-series collector's series in, what Porsche calls, the Heritage Design strategy.

Codenamed the 992, only 992 models will be built for the global market, making it a truly remarkable and rare car in Porsche's history.

Special bits and pieces

The interior of the 992 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition, says Porsche, is a deliberate throwback to the cars preceding it. The use of corduroy, for example, harks back to the Porsche 356 and the fashion style of the 1950s. On the dashboard, a metal badge houses the limited edition number of your Targa Heritage model.

Five exterior colours, including the pictured Cherry Metallic, are on offer and are combined with gold logos that further accentuates the 1950s theme and style. White livery has been brought onto the front wings, and the 1963 Porsche Crest takes centre stage on the car's bonnet.

Oliver Blume, chairman of the executive board of Porsche AG, says: "With the Heritage Design models, we are evoking memories of the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s in customers and fans alike. No brand can translate these elements into the modern day as well as Porsche and, in this way, we are fulfilling the wishes of our customers. We are also establishing a new product line that represents the lifestyle dimension in our product strategy with these exclusive special editions."

The 911 Targa Heritage Design Edition is powered by the 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine, as found in the Targa 4S. Power outputs remain unchanged at 331kW and 530Nm, with Porsche claiming a 0 – 100km/h time of 'less than 3.6 seconds.' The top speed is rated at 304km/h.
