Kia's all-new Sportage SUV has officially been unveiled and features a design inspired by nature.
The new model is developed on a new architecture that boasts significantly more interior and boot space than before while also using hybrid powertrains. As far as local availability goes, it is still under consideration for local introduction.
Kia South Africa says: "The all-new Sportage is under consideration for introduction to the South African market. Once its local launch is confirmed, we will share more details."
New on the model is an Electronic Controlled Suspension system, Terrain Mode, including Kia's comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems.
New and improved
The front features a redesigned black grille graphic with the brand's Tiger Nose grille and distinctive boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights with Matrix LED headlights.

A first for the model is a black roof along with a rear chrome beltline and rear spoiler. The rear features razor rear lights with a slim horizontal design. Customers can also choose from 17, 18 or 19-inch wheel options, a choice of six different alloy designs, colours and finishes.
Besides the spacious interior, occupants can use the generous 591 litres boot space on offer, and the rear seats can be folded down, allowing for an additional 1 780 litres. The interior also consists of a 12.3-inch touchscreen and instrument cluster with additional connectivity like Kia Live Services, Online Navigation, Online voice recognition, Calendar integration and wireless charging.
Powertrain options consist of hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models that work in unison with a 1.6-litre T-GDI engine, each generating 132 and 169kW, respectively. The PHEV has a 66.9kW electric motor and 13.8kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack that delivers a cumulative power output of 195kW. The HEV has a 44.2kW electric motor and a 1.49kWh lithium-ion polymer battery that generates 169kW. Also included is a mild hybrid (MHEV) system with outputs of 110kW or 132kW and a diesel engine that pushes out 85kW or 100kW.
A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, six-speed manual transmission and a six-speed intelligent manual transmission are the options available for the various applications.
Safety is also high on the priority list with inventory like Collision Avoidance, Speed Limit Assist, Highway Driving Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Remote Smart Parking Assist and Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control just some of the features.
