It's here! The all-new Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI has arrived in Mzansi, with the automaker releasing spectacular imagery of one of 2021's most-anticipated cars. With sales to commence on 1 September, Volkswagen South Africa is quite excited about the new car's prospects in the country, with a sales figure of between 600 and 700 units expected by year-end. And given the excitement around the car, we should not discount the automaker from achieving that goal.
The new Golf 8 GTI is powered by the familiar (EA888) turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine that's done duty in the previous model, but power has been increased to 180kW and 370Nm, sent to the front wheels via a VW's famed DSG transmission. 0-100km/h is cleared in a claimed 6.2 seconds, while the top speed has been upped to 250km/h.
The new GTI boasts several cosmetic attributes to make it stand out from the crowd. The most notable of these are the daytime-running LEDs that's been incorporated into the honeycomb grille. At the rear, the two tailpipes sit on either side of the diffuser, while the GTI logo takes centre stage below the new VW logo.
The Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI is priced at R669 300 and comes standard with a five-year or 90 000km service plan. The warranty is valid for three-year or 120 000km.
