Porsche recently unveiled its newest 911 GT3 sports car, but has upped the ante by introducing a new Touring package for it. The 'Touring package', says Porsche, made its first appearance on the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS. It wouldn't be until 2017 that Porsche would revive the Touring Package on the 991 911 GT3.
When Porsche revealed the most recent 911 GT3, the massive rear wing drew all the attention. However, for the Touring, that wing has been omitted to give the GT3 a greater sense of understatement. To generate high-speed downforce, the rear spoiler extends automatically to create that classic Porsche driving traits.
The 992 911 GT3's 4.0-litre straight-six engine produces 375kW. The engine is mated to a six-speed GT sports gearbox as standard, but Porsche's brilliant seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission can be specified at no extra cost. The 911 GT3 weighs just 1 418kg.
Touring package explained
At the rear, a 'GT3 Touring' logo is located over the high-revving engine. On the standard car, the trim strips of the side windows and the tailpipes of the sports exhaust system are silver-coloured but are finished in satin-gloss Black in the optional exterior Touring package. The front light modules are dark-tinted in this case.
The 911 GT3 with Touring package also offers the atmosphere of a classic sports car in the interior, says Porsche. The steering wheel rim, gear/selector lever, the centre console's cover, armrests in the door panels and the door handles are covered in black leather. The black theme continues as the seat centre panels are covered with black fabric, and the roofliner is also black. The head restraints bear embossed Porsche Crests. The door entry guards and trim elements on the dashboard and centre console are made of brushed black aluminium.
Porsche also offers almost all the optional equipment for the 911 GT3 in combination with the Touring package. This includes all exterior and wheel colours, LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System and Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus, various assist systems, the ceramic brake PCCB, the lift system on the front axle, all seat variants, the Chrono package, and the audio systems.
