Volkswagen's Tiguan has enjoyed considerable success in South Africa since the first model was first introduced to the local market in 2008.

The latest iteration will go on sale from 1 July 2021 and will be supported with Virtual Reality (VR) technology, available at 25 selected dealerships across the country.

The German brand was the first local automaker to introduce VR in dealer showrooms with the Polo, T-Cross and T-Roc - alongside the Tiguan - all available in VR. The technology will also be available for the Golf 8 GTI when it goes on sale in during the third quarter.

The VR system allows customers to experience night-time driving as well as the convenience offered by the IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, which feature 22 individual LEDs per headlight.

Features like Lane Change Assist and Side Assist are also easily experienced using VR. These driver aides help motorists stay in their lane with reaction to vehicles moving in parallel and oncoming traffic. Another feature available on VR is Emergency Braking with Front Assist, which assists with detecting obstacles in the front of the vehicle.

While the local range of engines has yet to be confirmed, European models have three TSI and two TDI engines available with a seven-speed DSG transmission and the optional 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.
