• 2021 is set to be a bumper year for Audi South Africa with no less than seven RS models heading our way.

• The German carmaker will look to improve on its 0.3% growth in market share last year compared to 2019.

• Apart from the RS models, Audi will introduce an all-new A3 and updated version of its Q5 and Q2.

Audi South Africa is hoping to improve on a tough 2020 by launching a slew of new products headlined by no less than seven models from its RS performance arm.

The carmaker reported it had grown its market share by a measly 0.3% in 2020 compared to 2019. The premium sector in South Africa was hard hit by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

The brand however did manage to one new model and two updated ranges last year. The refreshed A4 sedan and Q7 SUV arrived towards the latter end of 2020 and introduce significantly changes to both models.

We spent a month with the A4 and were impressed by its ride comfort and frugal engine. It is also the first Audi to feature 'Connected' services.

The Q7 was given a new front grille and LED lights back and front. But the biggest change is inside, with a new infotainment system seen in other models like the A7 and Q8.

Audi will want to put 2020 behind them and focus on this year. The luxury brand will introduce a totally refreshed and extensive R and RS performance range including the RS4, RS5, RS6, RS7, RSQ8, RSQ3, R8 are all due in 2021.

Arguably the most-anticipated model is the RS6. It is powered by the VW-Group's 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine with 441kW and 800Nm.

It uses an eight-speed automatic and four-wheel-drive. Audi says it'll reach 100km/h in 3.6 seconds and only 12 seconds to hit 200km/h. The large RS6 weighs just over two tonnes.

The RSQ8 will become the ultimate flagship SUV for the four-ringed company while the facelifted R8 serves the purpose as a fully fledged sports car fitted with a 5.2-litre V10 engine. It has received subtle styling to the new model.

Aside from the performance models, the all-new A3 model range arrives this year and face lifted version of the Q5 and Q2 model ranges will also be shipped over.
