In the not-too-distant past, the combination of rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox was hardly unusual in South Africa. There were lightweight sportscars, like the Mazda MX-5, high-revving two-seaters, like the Honda S2000, V8-powered American muscle cars, such as the Ford Mustang, and even three-pedal versions of high-performance German saloons (think BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C63).
