Most of us might not be getting that Porsche 911 GT3 RS or Mercedes-Benz C63 S we long for this Christmas.

Fear not - there is a way you can do that though, and you don't have to pay millions of rands.

Power in your hands

Playstation 4 and Xbox One consoles have become the global leaders in gaming, pretty much like the Toyota Hilux and Volkswagen Polo in SA with impressive monthly Naamsa sales figures.

The majority of gamer petrolheads will note that either Forza or Gran Turismo is the one to choose with its sublime graphics and attention-to-detail realism, becoming the pick of the bunch.

There are plenty of platforms out there each with its own unique style of racing, here are five of the best games available on Playstation 4 and Xbox One:

1. Gran Turismo Sport - Playstation 4

The first instalment made its debut in 1997 on Playstion 1 and has gone from strength to strength since then with a further six titles released. The latest edition on PS4 takes real-life racing to the next level.

It is only available on Playstation but it is worth noting that this is an online game so an internet connection is required. If that is no obstacle, you can pick it up at BT Games or Takealot for as little as R350.

2. Forza Horizon 4 - Xbox One

What Gran Turismo is to Playstion, so too is Forza to Xbox. It is an Xbox-only game and is currently in its 11th instalment. It has notched up seven awards this year.

If your wallet has enough inner strength and will-power to do so come end of January, Takealot sells it for R 1 399.

3. DriveClub - Playstation 4

This combines the elements of Need for Speed and Forza into one package where you get to compete in racing events around the world and also build your own club.

There are 50 cars available and a further 60 that can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store. Takealot sells it for R350.

4. F1 2019 Xbox One and Playstation 4

This list just wouldn't be complete without Formula 1. Owners of an Xbox or PS4 can get their hands on it and race with the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

Prices vary according to console with a price tag of R1 500 on the Xbox and R845 on PS4.

5. Need For Speed Heat - Playstation 4

Need for Speed is another classic that has long been part of the gaming world. It is currently in its 24th instalment and is available to play on both console platforms.

Immerse yourself in the thrill of police chases and octane-filled racing action. Pricing is R899 on Xbox One, and R869 on PS4.
