The RTMC has revealed what time of day slots are released to book online licence renewal appointments. We'll also be sharing some useful tips and info when logging on to the system.

For the past few months, Wheels24 readers have been at their wits' end not being able to book online slots for licence appointments on the Natis system.

We have been publishing reader letters in a bid to voice motorists' concerns and struggles in the failing online system which has prevented thousands of motorists to renew their licences, especially those licences which have expired during the hard lockdown earlier this year.

The system has not yet been streamlined or simplified for users, but at Wheels24's request, the RTMC has shared some useful tips and info which we'll share in several articles.

The first batch of information is when slots are released at various times of the day, and when would be the best time to try and log online for a booking.

However, many readers have been trying at random times, all hours of the day, and even night, yet they have not been able to secure a spot. Let's hope the following advice and information from the RTMC could be useful to motorists:

The RTMC says: "Always clear your browser information. If you are not sure how to do this, we suggest that you Google "How to clear my history on my browser."

If you have registered your profile, then you are unlikely to encounter errors on your surname or initials which can delay you in accessing booking information.

Slots are released over 12 hours in these 'zones' to accommodate everyone. (The RTMC received many complaints from users when slots WERE released at 07:45, hence the change to a 12-hour period of release to accommodate the broader need of users).

The first release of slots would be between 08:00 and 09:30
The second release happens in and around tea time from 10:00 till 11:30.
The third release is before and just after lunchtime which can be from 11:40 to 14:00.
The fourth release is in the afternoon which can be from 15:00 to 16:30.
The fifth release is early evening, which can be from 17:00 to 18:30.
The sixth release is the evening where applicants can check for slots from 18:45 onwards till 20:00.

Please note that in these 'zones' multiple batches of slots can be released if a high volume of slots has been made available by the DLTC's.
