New Maserati Levante S: Here's how many luxury SUVs Maserati has sold so far in 2017

Cape Town  - It’s rare these days for a luxury automaker not to build an SUV.

Automakers such as Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz and BMW have been building premium SUVs for decades, while newcomers to the segment include Jaguar and Bentley.

A luxury favourite

Maserati joined the SUV race in 2016 with the launch of its luxury Levante and in November 2017 the automaker has expanded its range with the addition of a new petrol 'S' version

Maserati has sold 132 models from January to October, with the Levante coming out on top - 83 sold so far in 2017, not bad considering the model starts from R1.6-million.

By Maserati's standards, the Levante can be seen as an overwhelming preferred choice of the brand as the second best seller, the Ghibli, only managed to find 14 homes.

The rest of the list consists of the GranTuriso, GranCabrio and Quattraporte.
