Cape Town - Continuing its trend as South Africa’s best-selling passenger car, the Volkswagen Polo Vivo found 2383 new owners in March 2017; almost 400 more than the second-placed standard Polo.
The Polo secured the top two positions for VW with a sales figure of 1997 units.
The best-selling vehicle overall however is Toyota's Hilux bakkie with 3447 units sold in March. .
The Toyota Corolla/Auris/Quest found 1511 new owners, followed by the Toyota Fortuner (1312 units) in fourth. The Etios (859 units) and Rav4 (640) filled positions sixth and eighth, respectively.
Ford SA, despite the turmoil of the last few months, had three of its vehicles within the top 10 list.
The Fiesta came in fifth place with a sales figure of 1041 units. It is also the last passenger car with a sales figure of more than 1000.
The EcoSport (759 units) continued its run as a top 10 contender in seven place, while the Everest made a surprise appearance in ninth place with 577 units sold.
The VW Golf 7 closes out the top 10 with a sales figure of 549 units.
Commenting on passenger car sales, Naamsa said: “The March 2017 new car market at 31 034 units reflected a gain of 644 cars or an improvement of 2.1% compared to the 30 390 new cars sold in March 2016.”
