KwaZulu-Natal - A Ford Kuga, a model embroiled in a series of safety recalls has caught fire in Estcourt, KwaZulu Natal, reports News24.
Owner Sissy Mkhwanazi said: "I am not looking for fame, I want Ford to take responsibility for what is happening."
The Durban resident was travelling Southbound on the N3 when she felt the SUV losing power. Mkhwanazi said her brakes did not function properly and she heard, says News24, "a loud noise coming from somewhere in the vehicle and observed a dark object flying off as she applied her handbrake".
She managed to stop the vehicle, walked to the front and saw flames erupting from the beneath the bonnet. Soon after, the entire Kuga was engulfed in flames.
Ford SA told Wheels24: "Ford South Africa is aware of the incident involving the Ford Kuga of Sissy Mkhwanazi. We are saddened to hear about Ms Mkhwanazi’s ordeal. Ford is investigating the cause of the fire as a matter of urgency and in the interim, have provided Ms Mkhwanazi with a courtesy vehicle. We treat any such incident with the highest priority and will continue to liaise with her on the matter."
