Ford introduced its Mustang Mach-E GT to attendees at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The vehicle, an all-electric SUV version of Ford's famous pony car, arrived in all its glory and will go on sale in the UK later this year. According to pricing on the Ford UK website, the entry-level Mach-E AWD, which went on sale earlier in 2021, retails for £46 650, which translates to around R941 742 at the current exchange rate. The Mach-E GT, on the other hand, when it goes on sale, is priced at £67 225 (estimated at R1 357 098).
While there is no confirmation on the Mustang Mach-E's South African timeline, the SUV is likely to be imported if - and when - it arrives in South Africa, with various taxes being added to the estimated costs.
The Mustang Mach-E GT has more torque than any other Ford vehicle ever sold in Europe, allowing it to clear 0-100km/h in as little as 4.4 seconds. It's a pretty impressive figure, making the Mach-E GT the fastest accelerating five-seater in Europe yet.
Mustang Mach-E GT
The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT is driven by a dual-motor, all-wheel drive, battery-electric powertrain. In all, the system produces a total of 358kW and 860Nm. Given its electric nature, torque is available from the get-go, and the top speed is a claimed 200km/h.
To differentiate the Mach-E GT from its siblings, the SUV is fitted with Ford Performance sports seats, 20-inch alloy wheels, and exclusive exterior colours. Inside, passengers will find a 15.5-inch full-HD display that houses Ford's next-generation SYNC communication. According to Ford, this system can learn driver behaviours. Soft-touch leather-like materials adorn the cabin, and the rear luggage area is a respectable 402L.
Two AC motors drive the SUV's front and rear wheels.
Geert van Noyen, manager, Vehicle Dynamics at Ford Europe, says: "Mustang Mach-E GT demonstrates the true potential for all-electric powertrains to dial up the fun-to-drive experience. This is a premium specification five-seater SUV with the acceleration of a supercar and zero tailpipe emissions - a combination that was the stuff of dreams when I started my career as a car engineer 30 years ago."
