Land Rover will enhance its Discovery for the 2021 model-year. The SUV will feature several exterior design enhancements, including new LED headlights and taillights with fresh front and rear bumpers. Inside, the center console features the automaker's new advanced Pivi Pro infotainment system, while occupants in the second row of seats are treated to more comfort.

A new, larger 11.4-inch HD touchscreen plays home to Pivi Pro, while the advanced connectivity allows for software to be updated over-the-air.

The updated Discovery will be available in South Africa in the first half of 2021.

New engines

Land Rover will introduce two new engines on the 2021 Discovery, both 3.0-litre with in-line six-cylinders. The petrol unit, called the P360, develops 265kW and 500Nm of torque between 1750 and 5000rpm. This motor is coupled to a mild-hybrid 48V electric battery that is said to enhance efficiency and performance.

The diesel option, called the D300, has 221kW and 650Nm on offer. The torque figure is available between 1500 - 2500rpm. This engine replaces the previous SD4 and SDV6 diesels.

Still versatile

Land Rover says that its updated Discovery will still be as versatile as ever when the new model arrives next year. 2485L of load space is on offer when only five seats are in use, but even with all seven seats erect the SUV still offers 258L of luggage space. The optional hands-free Gesture Tailgate* allows users to swipe a foot underneath the rear bumper, which will open the tailgate.

Inside the cabin, Intelligent Seat Fold technology allows customers to effortlessly configure the seating layout using the central touchscreen, while Remote app technology lets customers keep tabs on the fuel status and location of their vehicle and even unlock and lock the doors, says Land Rover.

In the back, comfort is further improved by the relocation of the second-row air-vents from the B-pillars to the center console, providing increased airflow to second-row passengers who have their hidden-until-lit ventilation controls and power supplies.

Land Rover's new second-generation Activity Key is also available. It features touchscreen controls, a digital watch and can lock, unlock and start the vehicle as an addition to the conventional fob.

*Gesture tailgate is an option on all derivatives, and standard on HSE
