SVI Engineering, a specialist manufacturer of armoured products, has opened its second national office in Cape Town.

The occurrence of armed heists and hijacking is becoming prevalent in the province, thus highlighting the need for reinforced vehicles, especially businesses transporting large sums of cash. According to 2020's SAPS crime statistics, more than 18 000 vehicle hijackings were recorded annually.

Interested customers can visit the premises situated at Killarney Junction in Table View and is open by appointment. Pricing for a kit starts from R223 000 for a single cab bakkie, R258 000 for extended and R319 000 for double.

Supporting the client base

Customers can choose from discreet or the cost-effective non-discreet options in B4 or B6 armoured specification. The B4 offers bullet-resistant protection against handguns up to .44 Magnum, bricks and other hand-held projectiles. It consists of 18-21mm armoured glass and Kevlar sheets for the body, adding an additional 280kg to the overall GVM. The B4 option is only available in discreet form, with a single kit taking around four weeks to prepare and installation time is only three weeks.

B6 is the highest level of civilian protection that doesn't require a special permit and is the ultimate level of security against assault rifles and AK47's. Because of the added 680kg, the suspension is adjusted accordingly, and a bakkie in discreet trim can take up to three months to complete.

The brand also works exclusively with Ford South Africa that provides factory-approved armoured protection for the Ranger bakkie - a first for any OEM manufacturer in the country.

SVI has now approved AccidentGuru as an installer of the Stopgun kits on Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux models. Clients can also order from a range of products available at the Cape Town office, such as discreet armoured vehicles built at the main facility outside Pretoria.
