Porsche revealed its all-new Macan ahead of its official debut. The third-generation Macan will, indicatively, arrive locally in January 2022 when the first South African customers will take delivery of the new SUV. The Macan made its first debut in 2014 and has since become one of the best-selling Porsche models in the modern era.
Three models will make up the line-up, headlined by the sports-orientated Macan GTS. The other two models are the Macan and Macan S.
The new Macan family retains the familiar look the SUV has become known for but manages to smooth out the design for a more flowing look. Porsche says that seven new wheel designs are available on the Macan, all ranging between 19- and 21-inches, depending on the model. Distinguishing the GTS model from the rest of the range is a raft of design elements that include 21-inch RS Spyder Design wheels, Sport Design side skirts, clear LED taillights, and a Sports Exhaust system with black tailpipes.
A turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine powers the entry-level Macan. It offers 195kW and 400Nm. Porsche claims a 0-100km/h time of 5.8 seconds for this model. When fitted with the optional Sport Chrono Package, this time is slashed by 0.3sec. Top speed is 230km/h. The next model, the Macan S, features a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine. With 280kW and 520Nm on offer, the SUV completes the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.4sec when fitted with the optional Sport Chrono Package and will run a 260km/h top speed. Porsche's Active Suspension Management (PASM) is standard on the Macan S.
The Macan GTS features the same engine as the Macan S, but power is increased to 323kW and 550Nm. Porsche claims a 0-100km/h time of 4.1sec when the Sport Chrono Package is specified, along with a 272km/h top speed. The Macan GTS' ride is 15% over the model it replaces and features adaptive air suspension. The ride height is 10mm lower than the rest of the range. Those wanting to differentiate their Macan GTS from the norm further can opt for the optional GTS Sport Package. It includes the Sport Chrono Package, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, 18-way Adaptive Sport Seats, Sport Design mirrors with caps painted in high-gloss black, front and rear fascia, and side skirts in satin black, and 21-inch GT Design wheels shod with high-performance tires.
Porsche seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission and all-wheel drive is standard across the range.
The South African order books for the new Macan will open in the next few weeks. Current three-year pricing is as follows:
• Macan - R1 050 000
• Macan S - R1 271 000
• Macan GTS - R1 551 000
