The third generation Range Rover Sport has arrived in South Africa and will go on sale in November. The all-new model is based on a redesigned platform, which introduces more advanced chassis technologies than ever before, providing the basis for the most engaging and dynamically capable SUV driving experience yet.
Unmistakably Range Rover
The exterior is unmistakably Range Rover but ultra-modern, featuring taut surfacing, a dynamic stance and an instantly recognisable profile, accentuated by muscular proportions and exceptional attention to detail.
Dramatic proportions include short overhangs, an assertive front-end and steeply raked glazing front and rear. A stealth-like grille and digital LED lights create a distinctive daytime running light signature. The slimmest lights ever fitted to a Range Rover sit above a sculpted, double-aperture lower bumper.
The rear features a sculpted tailgate incorporating a full-width Range Rover script, while uninterrupted LED light graphics introduce surface LED technology on a production vehicle for the first time.
Clean lines are accentuated by flush glazing and door handles, a hidden waist rail finisher and a laser welded roof that add a sophisticated touch and also contribute to excellent aerodynamic performance.
All new underpinnings
The chassis, codenamed MLA-Flex, due to its composition of flexible mixed-metal architecture, provides up to 35% better torsional stiffness than the previous model. The new chassis has also allowed the implementation of a suite of systems governed by the Integrated Chassis Control system, which has all been tuned specifically for the new Range Rover Sport.
For example, the new Dynamic Response Pro works hand in hand with the latest generation Dynamic Air Suspension, which is fitted to all models and features switchable volume springs. This works by varying the pressure within the chambers to deliver comfort and the dynamic handling characteristics expected from the Range Rover Sport.
Cornering ability is taken to the next level with all-wheel steering, torque vectoring by braking and the electronic active differential.
Off-road performance is taken care of by the latest Terrain Response 2 system, which intelligently applies the most appropriate settings for the terrain. Adaptive off-road cruise control makes its debut and helps drivers navigate tricky terrain by maintaining steady progress while considering the conditions.
Getting in and out of the vehicle is an occasion, with deployable door handles with proximity sensing, soft door close and approach unlock.
Providing the basis for an engaging and supportive journey are 22-way adjustable, heated and ventilated electric memory front seats with massage function and winged headrests. Rear passengers benefit from ergonomically optimised seat geometry, with a 31mm increase in legroom and 20mm greater knee clearance. Innovative and sustainable material choices include tactile and lightweight Ultrafabrics premium textiles finished in attractive duo-tone colourways.
Powerful Meridian audio options are available, including the Meridian Signature Sound System, the most advanced and powerful audio system ever fitted to a Range Rover Sport.
Next-generation Active Noise Cancellation contributes to superior interior sound quality by reducing the effect of road and tyre noise entering the cabin.
The Pivi Pro infotainment features a high resolution floating 13.1-inch curved touchscreen positioned at the centre of the modernist dashboard and allows for control of everything from navigation to media and vehicle settings.
Ahead of the driver is a 13.7-inch Interactive Driver Display, with high-definition graphics that echo the primary Pivi system and a reconfigurable layout that allows drivers to continuously view the information that is most important to them.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto are fitted as standard, allowing for smartphone mirroring while your phone is safely tucked away on the dedicated 15W wireless charger.
The Range Rover Sport features the latest safety-focused Advanced Driver Assistance Systems with all models featuring Emergency Braking, a 3D Surround Camera including front and rear parking sensors, wade sensing, Clearsight Ground View, manoeuvring lights, driver condition monitor, and lane keep assist.
Under the bonnet
Initially, the Range Rover Sport will have four engine options, with a fully electric model expected to join the offering in 2024.
The P510e electric hybrid pairs a 3.0-litre six-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine with a 105kW electric motor and a 38.2kWh battery for a total system output of 375kW. It offers more than 100km of EV range and can complete the 0-100km/h sprint in just 5.4 seconds.
The flagship V8 Twin Turbo, fitted to the P530, boasts 390kW and can sprint to 100km/h in just 4.5 seconds.
The choice of powertrains also includes a P400 mild-hybrid straight six Ingenium petrol and a six-cylinder D350 diesel engine.
All Range Rover Sport models are fitted with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and all-wheel drive that intuitively anticipates where traction is required.
