• The latest German coupes meet in a drag race.
• The BMW 420i takes on the A5 40 TFSI model.
• Both cars use 2.0-litre turbocharged engine.
This is the second drag race this week from the guys at CarWow, but it doesn't feature fire-breathing performance cars, instead a pair of German coupes that we're more likely to see on our roads.
The brand new BMW 4 Series coupe's grille is like marmite, either you love it or hate it. The vertical slats of the kidney grille features on the new M3 and M4 models.
But whether we like it or not, it's hear to stay. In fact, BMW's focus groups in China leaned towards the design, and with that being a massive market for the brand, it stands to reason why it made it into production.
Grille aside, the BMW is a sleek-looking two-door by 2.0-litre turbocharged motor with 135kW and 300Nm. The power is transferred to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The G22 model has a 0-100km/h time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 240km/h.
The coupe from Ingolstadt also uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and produces more power. It has a quoted output of 140kW and 320Nm mated to a seven-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch gearbox.
The power is sent to the front wheels only. The Audi heads to 100km/h slightly quicker than the BMW, with a quoted sprint time of 7.1 seconds and tops out at 234km/h.
It's interesting to see a drag race between cars that are more common than their performance brethren. The BMW was launched in the latter period of 2020.
So, it comes down to the race with the Audi sporting more power and better performance stats. Or will the rear-wheel-drive BMW screech off the line faster and take the winning flag, watch the video below.
