• Big, German four-door sedans line up for V8 drag race

• The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S has more power, but weighs more

• Both are powered by 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 engines

The power war between the world's best carmakers is showing no signs of slowing down. A drag race conducted by Carwow pits the latest Audi RS7 Sportback and Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S against each other to see which is quickest.

From the outset they're engineered to be sleek, four-door, supremely comfortable GT cars. But when the respective performance arms get hold of these models, they turn into machines with supercar-rivaling power.

The four-door from Ingolstadt is powered by a 4.0-litre, twin turbocharged V8 engine with power figures of 441KW and 800Nm. Slap that power onto its famed Quattro all-wheel-drive system and you have a 0-100km/h acceleration of 3.6-seconds.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S counters with 470kW and 900Nm from its 4.0-litre biturbo V8 engine.

The Affalterbach missile sends its power to all four wheels via the 4Matic system and arguably lets out a better sounding growl in comparison to the RS7.

But what about the elephant in the room? These cars are heavy. The Mercedes tipped the scales at 2120kg, thus making it slightly heavier than the 2065kg the Sportback has to carry around.

Good match-up

While the Mercedes has more power, it is heavier than the four-ringed badge model. And don't forget these cars run sophisticated all-wheel drive systems which aids off-the-line acceleration.

They also use launch control to give the driver the optimum launch, but enough talking, let's see who wins this German four-door drag race.

Long live the power war!

Carwow says: "It's time for a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 showdown! The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door is a favourite of ours when it comes to drag races, and it’s easy to see why, given it can put down 470kW and 900Nm of torque!

"The RS7 has the same amount of displacement but the power stats are lower. So will the weight advantage push it across the line first?"
