One of our favourite films of all time here at Wheels24 must be Mad Max: Fury Road. Not only is it packed with action, adventure, suspense and intrigue, but it's also brimming with cool cars, trucks and monstrosities that are perfect for post-apocalyptic motoring. Unfortunately, we can't daily drive those cool cars from the Mad Max franchise as a daily. Well, you could, but it might be a bit of a handful explaining that built-in propane flame thrower or 5mm mounted rail gun to the Metro Police.

Jokes aside, you can buy a vehicle that's built for post-apocalypse driving and still use it as a daily driver, thanks to the folk at SVI Engineering. The company has just lifted the lid on its latest Land Cruiser model, which is equipped with a barricade-busting plough type utensil that would undoubtedly make you unstoppable on the road.

SVI Engineering is a specialist manufacturer of armoured vehicles and has been contacted by clients in the mining and security industries to clear road barricades during riot action.

Designed from scratch, they say that the SVI anti-riot scraper more than meets these requirements by enabling standard vehicles, like the Toyota Land Cruiser 79 you see in these pictures, to safely clear a path through debris to allow security and medical personnel access to critical locations. The SVI anti-riot scraper and hydraulic power pack come as a unit for easy installation in a couple of hours. The mass of around 100 kg is comparable to a standard bulbar and winch fitted to many off-road vehicles.

Functioning as a standard bumper in its raised position, it can be hydraulically lowered (and extended) by pressing a button inside the cabin. Different angles of attack are available depending on the obstacle that needs to be moved.

SVI  can also fit a fire-extinguishing option to the blade to extinguish burning objects as the vehicle approaches them.

The first unit is now available for the Toyota Land Cruiser 79 (and its MAX 3 derivative); however, SVI can adapt this system for many other vehicles upon request. The company is currently developing a version for the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger bakkies.

If you are interested in kitting out your Land Cruiser, or Hilux or Ranger with one of these barricade busters, the SVI scraper takes four weeks to manufacture from order and installation is completed in less than a day. The retail cost for the anti-riot scraper for the Land Cruiser 79 is R 64 995, excluding VAT.
