A 54-year-old woman was expected to appear in the Greytown Magistrate’s Court, KwaZulu-Natal, on Wednesday for the murder of her 23-year-old daughter.

The mother was arrested on Tuesday and charged with murder after she allegedly threw a kettle of boiling water on her daughter at their home in Gugulethu Township in Greytown.

According to police sources, the woman was embroiled in an argument with her daughter at their home last week. The injured daughter was rushed to Greytown Hospital in a critical condition on Friday. She died on Monday in hospital.

KZN police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said Greytown police are investigating a case of murder.

This is a developing story.
