The unfortunate naming of an upcoming 18th birthday party after the Covid-19 pandemic’s “3rd wave” has left school principals and parents in Pietermaritzburg concerned.

The twin brothers’ party coincided with Health Minister Dr Zwelini Mkhize’s announcement that SA was in the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The twins, who cannot be named and refused to give Weekend Witness their parents contact details, said they saw nothing wrong with hosting the party. “The name is just a play on words. My brother and I are starting an events planning business, and this will be like the pilot of our business plan,” said one brother.
