‘Lucky’ fall for rock climber

accreditation

A MONTESEEL woman was lucky yesterday after she had a mountain climbing accident about 100 metres from where Mountain Rescue South Africa members were enjoying a climb with rescue equipment to hand.

The woman (22) broke her leg and suffered suspected back injuries after the accident at the popular rock climbing spot.

Gavin Raubenheimer from Mountain Rescue SA told The Witness that the woman was climbing in a group of four when the rope she was using slipped.

She was hoisted up by stretcher and taken to R.K. Khan Hospital for medical care, said Raubenheimer. “We happened to also be climbing about 100 metres away when the incident happened, so it was by pure chance that we were there.”
