At least seven killed in head-on collision.

Nine people were killed following a head-on collision between a taxi and a truck on the R82 Koppies Road at Sasolburg.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said when paramedics and several other services arrived on the scene before 8 am, they found the taxi and the truck on the side of the road.

Meiring said both the truck and taxi had sustained a significant amount of damage in the collision.

He said medics found several people trapped inside the taxi.

Meiring said at least seven people from the taxi had suffered fatal injuries and were declared dead at the scene.

Those who were injured were taken to a nearby hospital, and later two people succumbed to their injuries and died.

Meiring said local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
