Drugs found allegedly hidden in 58-year-old Nadaragen Chetty's car.

A 58-year-old man, Nadaragen Chetty, was arrested by Hawks members from the Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit, working together with Crime Intelligence, for dealing in drugs.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, said an intelligence driven operation was conducted at Mariannhill Toll Plaza after information was received about a person who was transporting drugs from Johannesburg to Durban.

“Members spotted the said vehicle, and it was intercepted. A search was then conducted and ten packs of heroin powder to the street value of approximately R1.8 million were found concealed in the dashboard,” said Mhlongo.

He said Chetty was subsequently arrested and charged for dealing in drugs.

He appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday and was remanded in custody. His case was postponed to September 22, for a bail application.
