A security guard is in a critical condition after being shot during a business robbery in Mobeni, Durban.

Garrith Jamieson, ALS Paramedics spokesperson, said they responded to multiple calls of assistance at Swindon Road on Wednesday afternoon.

"(Paramedics) arrived on the scene to find that a security guard had been shot in an alleged business robbery. The man, believed to be in his thirties, was found in a critical condition with a single gunshot wound to his abdomen," he said.

Jamieson said the guard was stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital.

The events leading up to the shooting are unclear, Jamieson said, and police are investigating further.
