Thousands of lost flip flop shoes make up a large part of the tonnes of plastic waste had collected in the Umgeni River.
Over 1 200 kilograms of waste was collected at the mouth of Umgeni River, in Durban, for an international study in ocean pollution.
Various organisations and volunteers on Saturday organised to collect waste that has been collecting in the river following the recent heavy rains in the city.
