As violence grips ANC councillor candidates meetings in Msunduzi, police are looking for man after a visibly pregnant female party member was assaulted during a meeting in Haniville.

According to police sources, police have since Sunday been searching for a prominent Pietermaritzburg activist after the woman, who is seven months pregnant, was punched and kicked during the ANC meeting.

Nomvuselelo Makamu (34), an ANC ward 29 branch deputy secretary, told The Witness that the community activist reacted with violence when she tried to intervene and calm down the volatile situation at the meeting.
