Political parties and independent candidates have until August 23 to submit candidate lists of names to the Electoral Commission (IEC) if they want to contest the upcoming elections.

This comes after Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Minister, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, announced the election date as October 27.

The IEC on Wednesday said the proclamation meant it had to open the candidate nomination process.
