“I was 15, pregnant and so scared that I could not even think straight.”

These are the words of a young woman who abandoned her newborn baby near a church in a township in Mandeni on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast seven years ago.

The woman, speaking to Weekend Witness on condition she is not named for fear of being victimised, is now 22-years-old and lives with “deep regret”.
