The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education, Kwazi Mshengu, has welcomed the sentencing of a 16-year-old girl who is accused of assaulting a fellow pupil from Mathole High School, in Mahlabathini, in Zululand District.

Following video footage that circulated on social media platforms in September showing a pupil severely assaulting another girl, the family of the victim opened a case at a local police station in Mahlabathini.

The accused pupil was charged with assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm. She was released on warning and under the care of her mother since she was only 16 years old.
