A DA-branded campaign truck was hijacked and set alight on Monday night outside Richmond.

The truck was travelling to Ixopo when five armed men travelling in a white bakkie stopped it.

Two DA members were allegedly held hostage during the hijack. The truck was driven to a deserted area in a plantation where the truck was stripped and the sound system stolen. The truck was then set alight.

Provincial DA leader, Francois Rodgers, said while the incident was traumatic for the DA members, neither was injured. The party has opened a case with the police and spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala confirmed the matter is being investigated.

On Friday, the DA alalso laid charges of assault against an eThekwini ANC councillor after he allegedly assaulted a DA staff member outside the eThekwini electricity offices in Durban.

Rodgers called on all political role players to ensure elections went ahead without intimidation.
