The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal is in coalition talks with rival political parties in an attempt to return to power in some of the municipalities it lost during Monday’s municipal elections.
According to the final preliminary results released by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on Thursday, the ANC lost its majority status in the province’s major municipalities of eThekwini and uMhlathuze in Richards Bay.
ANC losses in KZN key municipalities had also resulted in the party, whose support in Monday’s municipal elections dropped to 42%, losing its majority status in the province.
