The low youth voter turnout has been attributed to the lack of trust in politicians and poor service delivery in some KZN municipalities.

The low turnout was apparent in the municipal elections as many voters decided to stay away.

Frustration and anger towards politicians and the ruling party also led to voters boycotting the elections.
