Police confiscated four firearms and 205 rounds of ammunition during a sting operation in Matimatolo near Greytown on Thursday.

The operation was conducted by the Durban public order police project team who were following up on information received about a man who was in possession of illegal firearms.

KZN police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said the team went to a house in Wolongo in the Matimatolo policing area.

“Upon searching the house, the police found three rifles, rounds of ammunition and a shotgun. Two empty magazines were also seized by police.

“The owner of the firearms was not in the house when the police arrived. Investigations are still on-going and the owner of the firearms is still being tracked by police. The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing.
