A large Grey Mongoose was freed after being caught in a snare.
A large Grey Mongoose was freed after being caught in a snare.

A large Grey Mongoose is recovering at FreeMe Wildlife in Howick after it was caught in a snare.

Speaking about the rescue, Wade Whitehead, spokesman for the wildlife organisation, said: “When an animal is caught in a snare they struggle, which constricts the snare tighter ... So, time was of the essence to free the mongoose before it was strangled.”

Removing the snare was a two-stage process. The team first had to cut it free from the fence.
