July’s civil unrest combined with the unrelenting Covid-19 pandemic has ravaged business sentiment and created significant uncertainty in the iLembe District on the North Coast.

Business confidence across all sectors in the district is at an all time low, according to the 2021 mid-year iLembe Business Confidence Index (iBCI) survey report compiled by the iLembe Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Tourism, in partnership with Enterprise iLembe (EI).

Of the participating businesses, 86% said they were impacted by the unrest, resulting in job losses estimated to be in excess of 1 300.
