The Robin Hood Foundation is co-ordinating a food relief mission in KwaZulu-Natal.
Co-ordinator Jackie Psannis said the foundation has purchased 14 tons of food and 1,3 tons of water, which were delivered to their storage facility last Thursday.
“Our team of volunteers separated and sorted everything into 850 food parcels. Each food parcel consisted of 5 kg maize, 2 kg samp, 2 kg rice, 1 kg salt, 100 teabags, 400 grams soya, two tins of baked beans, long life milk, 750 ml cooking oil, 400 g soup, 400 g pilchards, 1 kg brown sugar, 1 kg cake flour, 150 g biscuits, fudge, 500 g soap and five litres of water.

She said the parcels were delivered to Cato Ridge, Inchanga, Camperdown, Marianhill, Stockville informal settlement, Hammarsdale, Sarnia, Nirvana Hills, Chatsworth, Sydenham, Inanda, KwaMashu, Amaoti and Verulam. People can still make drop-off donations at CGA Agencies in Pinetown, Broadway Pharmacy in Durban North, Wool ‘n Weave in Hillcrest, Dormehl in Gillits or Washwell Laundry in Umhlanga.
