The Democratic Alliance (DA) has accused KwaZulu-Natal’s Premier Sihle Zikalala of abusing his position by asking for presidential pardon for former president Jacob Zuma.

DA KZN leader, Francois Rodgers MPL, on Saturday said Zikalala’s plea to President Cyril Ramaphosa for a pardon on Zuma’s sentence is politically opportune, conflating his role as head of the provincial executive. He said Zikalala is also putting on open display his allegiance to Zuma and the ANC’s Radical Economic Transformation faction.

“Furthermore, it shows a flagrant disregard for the Constitution of the Republic,” said Rodgers.
