KZN student shot during protest sues for R600 000

A student who was hit by a rubber bullet and fell during protest action at a campus in northern KwaZulu-Natal is claiming R600 000 in damages from the Minister of Police.

Ayanda Gina’s claim came before the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Monday and was adjourned to a date to be arranged.

According to court papers, on May 5, 2015 at about midday, Gina was shot by a rubber bullet at the Eshowe campus of the Umfolozi TVET College.
