Local government polls must go ahead — IEC

While the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has agreed to meet political parties who want the upcoming local government elections postponed, it’s not budging on its stance that the polls should go ahead.

The ANC, IFP and EFF want the elections — which are due to be held before the end of November — postponed to next year as the current Covid-19 situation made it “difficult” for political parties to prepare for the polls.

However, the IEC said it does not have the power to postpone the elections.
