Mayor of the Nquthu Municipality Zama Shabalala has allegedly spent over R1 million on two luxury cars.

Nquthu Municipality Mayor Zama Shabalala has come under fire from opposition parties after he allegedly bought two luxury cars worth R1,4 million.

It’s alleged that the decision to buy the two mayoral cars — a Toyota Fortuner and a 4X4 Toyota Legend — was made without a council resolution.

Opposition parties have pressed the municipality to launch a deeper internal probe on the alleged splurging of taxpayers’ money.
