“If you have an animal with four legs and a snout in your garden, irrespective of size, you need to start from when they’re very young puppies – socialising, training and having the correct control.”

Morningside, eThekwini, K9 Academy dog trainer Leslie O’Brien, was approached for comment on dog behaviour by Weekend Witness, following the death of four-year-old Banele Shelembe.

She was attacked by two pitbulls in Elandskop, Pietermaritzburg, earlier this week.
