The city of Pietermaritzburg was plunged into darkness just after 6pm on Wednesday night.

The municipality said they had experienced a 132kv trip from two Eskom Msunduzi incomers affecting Masons, Prince Alfred, Retief, Pine, Archibell and Crossways Primary substations.

Eskom teams are attending.

The blackout came as Eskom announced that stage 2 loadshedding would be implemented again due to a loss of power at some of its major power stations.
