Verulam residents are frequently left in the dark due to unscheduled power cuts. Daya Paramjeeth, a resident from Dawncrest, one of three affected areas, said the outages last from three hours to a whole day.

Councillor for the area, Johnson Chetty said the problem is due to several reasons, including vandalism of a substation that took place a few years ago, damages to cable by fibre contractors, lack of maintenance, illegal connections overloading grids and lack of commitment from council.

Chetty said he is also affected by the outages, but people think that because he is a councillor, he can perform miracles.
