The Department of Health (DOH) is pleading with communities to protect paramedics as they are becoming easy targets for hijackers.

The department was responding to an incident where an emergency medical service worker was shot in Umlazi on Sunday night when an attempt was made to hijack the ambulance she was in.

“We are shocked and concerned about the recent attack on our emergency services personnel.
