Motorists heading towards Mooi River from Merrivale and Underberg towards Bulwer are advised to turn back and find alternate routes due to protest action on the R617.

KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) spokesperson, Rajen Chinaboo, told The Witness the protests began from as early 6:30am on Friday morning. The protestors are apparently burning trucks.

“From what we have gathered it is a service delivery protest with the people of the area taking to the roads to air their grievances.

“The roads are blocked and we have been turning away motorists from the above-mentioned routes ever since for their safety,” said Chinaboo, adding it is the safest thing to do for the motorists.
