Residents of the Joubets Vlei area took to the streets to protest by burning tyres and trees on Monday morning.

Motorists are advised to steer clear of the R622 area near Joubert's Vlei, in Mooi River, due to ongoing protest action.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala told The Witness that protest action had begun at 6:30 am with almost 150 people taking part.

He said the KwaManaka community members blockaded the R622 Road in Mooi River with burning tyres and trees.

"The road is still closed and police are at the scene to monitor and stabilise the situation,” said Gwala.
