Desperate Richmond residents have fallen prey to scammers who lured them into paying R2 000 each on the promise of getting a municipal job.
Some of the victims came forward and reported this to the municipality this week after having already paid the money to the scammers.
The scammers were apparently calling their victims and claiming that they got their contact details from municipality’s database. The job seekers were then instructed to deposit the money at the Spar supermarket, and put the scammer’s phone number in the contact details section so that the pin would be sent to the latter.
