Vaccinated South Africans can now download their digital Covid-19 vaccination certificate in just a few simple steps.
The system, which was officially launched by Minister of Health, Dr Joe Phaahla on Friday, produces a digital copy of the physical vaccine card received on the first vaccination visit and is linked to the vaccination code issued by the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS).
The digital certificate, which features a scannable QR code, can be downloaded as a PDF and used on a cellphone or tablet or printed out.
Speaking on its importance and uses, Phaahla said the certificate could be used for travel and tourism, sport and recreation events, music festivals and at shops providing discounts and prizes for people who are vaccinated.
He said the certificate would be improved in the next two months for safety and security purposes, but it is currently ready for use.
It would also be developed so it can be accessed via an app, Phaahla said.
The certificate was developed by the Department of Health and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
